It’s been almost two years since Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was released to the public. Since then, we’ve seen the titular character post-Reichenbach and dressed as a couch making fans laugh.

Elsewhere in the multiverse, as it’s called, we’ve seen another incarnation of the character jumping from St. Barts only to be revealed to be alive after we’ve cried alongside John Watson. (And together now,

MOFFAT!!!

Ahem, anyways, our beloved Arthur Conan Doyle characters have been through a lot in two years (as have fans) and we’ve all been chomping at the bit for a Holmes/Watson reunion in both TV and film. The BBC production airdate hasn’t been announced. One thing is for certain. It’s a lot closer to seeing the light of day than Guy Ritchie’s take.

The game, however, is still afoot for the next installment in the Robert Downey Jr helmed franchise just don’t expect it any time soon.

Jude Law recently spoke to Empire Magazine about “dusting off his old Watson cane and taking names”.

What kind of names? Well, here’s to hoping that like the BBC we’ll hear some more familiar and canon names like Charles Milverton or Baskerville. What better way to bring back that crazy, formaldehyde drinking detective than seeing some original stories in their original settings?

Law has stated that when they do three it’ll be “smarter and cleverer, but in the same realm.”

I’m excited. We do, however, have to wait a little bit longer.

“It’s a slow process,” Law said. “We’re all busy. So getting us together to try to nail that has taken a little bit longer than we had hoped.”

Drew Pearce, who penned a little RDJ film titled Iron Man 3 has been tapped to write the script. It’s safe to assume that the entire cast will return with Ritchie in the director’s chair. Of course there will also be the reunion which is sure to illicit tears, laughs, and maybe even a punch in face care of Watson to Holmes. Any way you spin it, it’ll be sure to be magical and in good hands.

While we’re all waiting patiently for the next installment we can whet our appetite with Iron Man 3 which is now out on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Jude Law’s new film Dom Hemingway, with Richard E. Grant and Emilia Clarke, is set to be released on November 4th in the UK.

As if we could forget, BBC’s Watson and Holmes will be trading verbal spars sometime this autumn.
