You have to give it to The Simpsons. After a whopping 24 seasons, they’re still trying to stay current.
The season 25 premiere will parody Homeland, a drama about terrorism and the CIA. In Homeland, Clare Daines plays a CIA officer that suspects that a U.S. Marine who returned to the States after being held by al-Qaeda, had been turned by the enemy. Similarly, in The Simpsons’ Homerland, Lisa suspects that Homer has been “turned” after attending a nuclear power plant conference.
Digital Spy reports that Kristen Wiig will guest star as an FBI agent Lisa enlists to help her figure out what has happened to her father.
The longstanding cartoon has spoofed everything from Harry Potter to Breaking Bad and even Doctor Who. With clever, subtle nods to pop culture to more overt gags in the opening credits, (Game of Thrones opening, anyone?), The Simpsons has always had fun with parodies, and something has to keep a show that’s been running since 1989 fresh.
Homerland will air September 29th in the States, the same day that the show Homeland also returns.
