Looks like we will be heading back to Springfield! Fox announced yesterday (October 4) that they have officially renewed The Simpsons for their 26th season!

Of the renewal, Kevin Reilly (Fox entertainment chairman) said, “For more than a quarter of a century, The Simpsons has captured the hearts and minds of fans in a way that transcends ages, languages and cultures”. He later added, “This groundbreaking series is not only the longest-running scripted show in television history, it’s one of the greatest sitcoms of our time, and I’m looking forward to yet another landmark season.”

This means The Simpsons will be continuing their stint as America’s longest-running sitcom and animated series – a massive achievement.

Season 25 kicked off last weekend, and promises to be one of their best yet with guest stars including Eva Longoria, Amy Poehler and Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, all confirmed to appear. As well as this, a collaboration with the Griffin clan from Family Guy is in the works, and a major storyline focusing on the death of an iconic, Emmy-winning character!

This renewal is unsurprising, however, as The Simpsons is continuing to perform well in the ratings despite its old age. The season 25 premiere Homeland spoof ranked as the top entertainment program of the night in adults 18-49.
