Despite starring on the popular (and terrifying) FX series American Horror Story, Jessica Lange has taken on a new role as a children’s book author.
A book originally meant just for Jessica’s granddaughters, it has grown into something more. “It was meant as just a little family thing. But it spiraled out of control, and now it’s a book.”
The 40-page book is titled It’s About a Little Bird, and it tells the story of two sisters and their time with their grandmother, Mem, on her farm. The book is illustrated with photographs that Lange took herself, most of them at her farm in New York. Most of the photographs featuring the two girls are of her own granddaughters, Adah and Ilse.
In a recent interview with Publisher’s Weekly, Jessica said, “I just woke up one morning with the story in my head and sat down and wrote it. I decided to illustrate it by tinting my black-and-white photographs [with photo oils rather than digitally], since I’ve always loved and collected hand-colored postcards.”
Jessica studied photography at the University of Minnesota in the late 1960’s, before the start of her acting career. In 2008 she released her first photography book, 50 Photographs. In 2011, she released her second photography book, Jessica Lange: In Mexico.
Due to the filming schedule for American Horror Story: Coven, Jessica is only scheduled for one appearance to promote her book. Tomorrow she will be appearing at Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles for a reading and signing.
It’s About a Little Bird is now available to purchase for a suggested retail value of $16.99.
