Mrs Bennet will be reaching for those smelling salts as Jennifer Ehle is set to appear as Anastasia Steele’s mother in Fifty Shades of Grey.
The American-British actress, best known for playing opposite Colin Firth as Elizabeth Bennet in the BBC’s 1995 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, is apparently in negotiations with Universal Pictures and Focus Features to play Carla according to Deadline. Carla is described as a strong Southern woman who is currently on her fourth husband. A far cry from Lizzie Bennet.
Apart from her award-winning role in Pride and Prejudice, Ehle has recently been seen in The King’s Speech and Zero Dark Thirty. She will next appear in the new Robocop film.
All going well, Ehle will star alongside the widely unpopular casting of Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson as leads Christian Grey and Anastasia in the adaptation of EL James’ erotic novel trilogy.
The Sam Taylor-Johnson directed film is set to go into production soon with a cinema release next August.
