It is turning out to be quite the Golden Anniversary year for hit sci-fi show Doctor Who.  If the anniversary episode and our introduction to Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor at Christmas wasn’t exciting enough, watch out there is more.

Two previously thought lost episodes from the time of Patrick Troughton’s 2nd Doctor have recently been found and returned to the BBC, and one special fan of the show couldn’t be more excited.  Mark Gatiss, who has written for and starred in the BBC show, has said that the news of the discovery of “The Web of Fear” and “The Enemy of the World” is an amazing gift for the show in this monumental year.  “I can’t really believe it.  Every single avenue seemed to be have been exhausted – to have two virtually complete stories out of the blue is absolutely incredible”. Gatiss made this comment at the recent London screening of the lost episodes.

Gatiss also said that the episode “The Web of Fear” has heavily influenced the first episode of the eagerly anticipated third season of Sherlock.  He admitted to being a bit of a geek when it comes to The Tube and believes this is due to this specific episode of Classic Doctor Who. Sherlockians take notice we are slowly learning more about what we can expect when the show finally returns.  Gatiss said “The first episode of Sherlock is explicitly about the London Underground for exactly that reason – because I love ‘The Web of Fear’”.

Oh great, why do I have the feeling that when we finally do get the new season of Sherlock my morning Tube commute will feel even freakier than normal.
