Anthony Mackie Says Playing the Falcon is the ‘Coup’ Of His Career

Anthony Mackie has said that being cast in the Captain America sequel is the ‘coup of [his] career”.

Mackie recently spoke to The Huffington Post saying, “It’s like the coup of my career to be able to be cast as the Falcon and have the ability to play it in that Marvel world.”

He continued: “You know, the great thing about it is Marvel is so open to allowing you to create a character and go as far as you want. They are very specific about what they want, but they are very liberal as far as allowing you to play in that spectrum.

“So, the fun thing about it is, [producer] Kevin Feige and everybody over there, they just really gave me, I feel, the opportunity of a lifetime and I tried to do the most I could with it. And I think, because of that, when you see the movie, the Falcon comes off as a great character.”

Captain America: The Winter Soldier features Steve Rogers (Chris Evens) and the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) teaming up together with the Falcon to take on the Winter Soldier (played by Sebastian Stan) in Washington, D.C.

But the Falcon isn’t just a regular sidekick to Captain America; in fact, he’s nothing of the sort. “They actually become co-heroes in all of the adventures that they go on together. And I feel like they kept true with that in the movie,” Mackie said.

Obviously it is as important to Mackie to portray the Falcon correctly as it is to the Marvel fanboys and girls. He even read the comics as a kid.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will arrive with a bang in US cinemas on April 4th and May 2nd for the UK.
