Community star, Donald Glover has taken to his personal Instagram account to post a series of candid, somewhat troubled, handwritten notes.
Many had thought that the reason for his departure from the cult-comedy-classic mid-season was because of his intention to pursue his rap career (under the name Childish Gambino), but Glover’s first note clarifies,
“I didn’t leave Community to rap. I don’t wanna rap. I wanted to be on my own. I’ve been sick this year. I’ve seen a bunch of people die this year. This is the first time I’ve felt helpless. But I’m not on that. Kept looking for something to be in with. Follow someone’s blueprint. But you have to be on your own.”
Throughout the above and the following six notes, Glover reveals more and more about his fears, insecurities and loneliness, all written on the same hotel notepaper.
Donald began his career as a writer for NBC’s 30 Rock before going on to star as Troy Barnes on Community, where he quickly became a fan favourite. Earlier in the year he also signed a deal with FX to develop, write and star in the semi-autobiographical, musical themed comedy Atlanta.
Although no return to air date has been set for the 5th season of Community, it is expected that Glover will appear in five of the shows 13 episode season.
