New Downton Abbey Photos Hint At Next Week’s Episode

These new preview photos of next week’s Downton Abbey offer some insight into what the episode will entail. We already know that Branson’s thinking of getting a fresh start with baby Sybbie (what?!), Isobel is trying to appeal to Violet’s benevolence and Alfred’s going to become master chef by attending the Ritz school of chef training; however, what else are we in for?

In a shot of Edith in a car looking out towards what appears to be Downton (see above) there is a sense of determination, or just contemplation, in her expression. Is it foreboding?  As there is in Mary’s expression in the image of her at the dining table, what’s occurring at dinner? Second thoughts in regards to a certain rejected marriage proposal, perhaps?

Alfred features in three images, one of him with other trainee chefs; aww, look at their faces. There is another of him speaking to the famous Ritz chef Arsene Avignon (played by Yves Aubert) and one of him in the kitchen at Downton talking to Ivy. This is also the order with which the scenes matter to me, because I’m rather done with caring about the little love-square between Alfred, Ivy, Jimmy and Daisy.

The photo of Carson’s formidable stare from his desk has me wondering whether Carson is contemplating life or love, I hope Fellowes has something kind in mind. However, the most intriguing images are those of Anna and Bates.

Last week it was rather apparent that Anna wasn’t coping very well at all, understandably, despite the brave face she put on. Mrs Hughes’ attempt to persuade Anna to go to the police, or at least tell Bates, was made in vain as Anna refused vehemently. The entire episode consisted of Anna avoiding Bates and rebuffing him at every turn, so the picture of what looks like Anna finally having a conversation with her husband is rather significant.
