Earlier today, PopWrapped reported that Lady Gaga’s collaboration with R&B superstar R. Kelly: “Do What U Want” became the third release from her upcoming third studio album: ARTPOP.
In the matter of hours of its release, the song skyrocketed to number one on both iTunes’ Top Songs and iTunes’ Top Pop Songs charts.
While it is receiving critical acclaim from fans, it has also stirred some harsh criticism.
Entertainment Weekly’s Kyle Anderson stated that the track “doesn’t quite come together” as he claims that Gaga’s vocal style clashes not only with R. Kelly’s “smooth R&B pipes” but with the track as well. Despite the flaws, Anderson stated it was “an intriguing mind-mind nonetheless.”
“Do What U Want” follows in the footsteps of “Applause,” where Gaga promoted it on both Good Morning America and August’s MTV Video Music Awards, and “Aura,” a track that was featured in Machete Kills.
ARTPOP is scheduled to drop November 11th.
