Universal Pictures have released a new trailer and posters for the upcoming film, 47 Ronin.

Despite having over 80 previous adaptations, the Keanu Reeves film will be the first time the story has ever been told in English.

The classic Japanese tale tells the story of a troupe of banished samurai who seek to restore their honour and exact vengeance against the treacherous Lord Kira (Tadanobu Asano, Thor: The Dark World) who is responsible for the death of their master.

The official synopsis from Universal states “Keanu Reeves makes an explosive return to action-adventure in 47 Ronin. After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.”

The film stars Keanu Reeves (The Matrix), Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Tekken) and Rinko Kikuchi (Pacific Rim) and was directed by Carl Rinsch from a screenplay by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini.
