Even though it is now nearly Halloween it looks like London is going to be just a little bit hotter for the next few weeks. It is reported that filming has started on the comedy action film, Mortdecai, which stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Johnny Depp AND Ewan McGregor. The movie, which is based on a trilogy of books by Kyril Bonfiglioli, also stars Olivia Munn and British actor, Paul Bettany.

This has been backed up by McGregor, who tweeted from his first morning on set.

Mortdecai is the first film from the new partnership of Lionsgate Films and Will Smith’s, OddLot. The film sounds like a bit of an old school comedic romp as Depp plays the part of a debonair rogue who is on hunt for a stolen painting which is apparently the key to unlocking some Nazi gold. Depp’s character is also dealing with trouble from his impossibly leggy wife (presumably this is Paltrow’s role), Mi5 and some angry Russians. Definitely sounds an interesting one.

Let’s hope that this film will help Depp break his recent run of less than successful films, what with The Lone Ranger bombing at the box office, and his recent collaboration with Tim Burton, Dark Shadows, proving less than successful.

Time will tell if this will be a box office hit, especially as Ewan McGregor doesn’t always have the best luck at the box office either. Let’s hope they break their streak.
