Say it isn’t so! However, American Horror Story star Jessica Lange says the end of her career is drawing nigh.
In an interview with The LA Times, the actress said that she plans on leaving the hit FX show after the next season. Lange, 64, says that she has a list of roles to take on before she retires from acting. “I am coming to the end of acting, I have a list: another stage production, maybe one or two more movies, one more season of American Horror Story. . . and then that is it for me. Because I think that’s enough. I want to go out with a bang. . . or should I say, a scare?”
The Oscar winning actress is very open about the impact that the Ryan Murphy horror series has had on her already successful career. “It reenergized me; it reenergized my career,” Lange added. “There’s no shame in recognizing that. It’s exposed me to a whole new generation, which is a little strange. I’m not used to young people thinking I’m cool.”
Ms. Lange won an Emmy for her role of Constance Langdon in Season One of American Horror Story, and was also nominated for her role in last season’s incarnation of the horror drama. She also said that she was not a fan of Ryan Murphy’s other shows prior to accepting the role in American Horror Story, as Ms. Lange admits she doesn’t watch TV. “I knew of him by reputation. And the truth of the matter is, I just thought, ‘Wow, nobody has done that song and dance for me in a long time.’ I liked being wanted.”
Although the screen legend has said she is nearly at the end of her acting career, we can still see her as prime witch Fiona Goode in American Horror Story: Coven which airs on FX every Wednesday night.
