Listeners criticize music all the time—but artists disliking their own music? That’s an interesting twist on things.

Rapper Azealia Banks revealed to Complex Music’s Peter Rosenberg that she doesn’t like her newest single, “ATM Jam”, which she first introduced to the world in June at Glastonbury Festival in the UK.

“I’m over ‘ATM Jam’,” the Harlem native told Rosenberg, before describing how the single came about after singer/songwriter Pharrell—who features on the track–asked her to write two songs he wanted for Beyonce.

He wanted verses that were out of her comfort zone, and Banks herself said that she didn’t even think she could do it.

“To be honest, I didn’t even like ‘ATM Jam’ when I wrote this version. It’s just what I came up with,” she admitted. “I like it, but I like it as an album cut. If I were writing a book and I wanted to preview my book on Amazon, I wouldn’t choose this chapter to preview. There are better chapters in the book.”

Banks revealed the tracklist on Instagram last month for her debut album Broke With Expensive Taste.

Although there isn’t even an official release date yet, she has confidently labeled it as the most innovative hip-hop record of the past ten years, even challenging veterans to dispute her claim once they listen.

“I challenge Kanye West to that—I challenge anyone to that. Broke With Expensive Taste is the most forward, the most new, the most now,” she told Au Review in Australia.
