Lip-syncing.

This hot button issue has lead to multiple debates in the entertainment industry.

Over the past few years, we have seen more Top 40 acts such as Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Rihanna and One Direction reportedly lip-sync at concerts or performances.

Conversations intensified when Britney Spears announced that her new Las Vegas show earlier this year.

Sources including the Daily Mail and The Huffington Post recently reported that Ms. Spears could be lip-synching a majority of her run at her Las Vegas show: Piece of Me.

In 2009, a group known as Live Leak released a video that contained Spears’ isolated microphone feed from her HBO special in Las Vegas.

The feed showed that the “Work Bitch” singer’s vocals were all over the place, and she was out of breath while performing her signature dance moves.  This happened when Spears performed “Boys,” “You Drive Me Crazy” and a cringe-worthy “Oops! I Did It Again.”

Since the video’s release in January 9, 2009, the video accumulated over 1.7 million views on YouTube and caused Spears’ ticket sales for her upcoming Planet Hollywood show to slow down.

After listening to the live feed vocals, I think that Ms. Spears in the footsteps of her musical mentors including Madonna, Janet Jackson and the late Michael Jackson, who at some point in their careers have been caught lip-syncing.

However, Ms. Spears should rethink her strategy of lip-syncing at her concerts because The New York Daily News learned that “all vocals will be prerecorded” and the Piece of Me “live band” will be “prerecorded as well.”

While Ms. Spears and her team have told the press that she has done vocal conditioning, it is important that Britney focuses on her vocals…. because if she relies on pre-recorded vocals alone, then this will be a major setback in her career.

Some of the best vocalists in the world have made their mark in the Las Vegas Strip including Celine Dion, Sir Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Bette Midler, Cher and Shania Twain.  Britney has the unique opportunity of being the second artist of her generation to receive a headline show in Sin City.
