After several delays, Universal Pictures have exclusively released the U.S. trailer for the Keanu Reeves, Samurai movie, 47 Ronin through Yahoo! Movies.

One week ago, Universal unveiled the movie poster and International trailer. Today’s offering gives us a more concise backstory and lays out the plotline further.

The films summary states: “Directed by Carl Rinsch, and also starring Hiroyuski Sanada and Rinko Kikuchi, the film set in mythical Japan is about a half-breed slave (played by Reeves) who becomes swift with the sword, joining a band of 47 masterless samurai in a quest for vengeance.”

There have been over 80 previous adaptations of the story that depicts the real-life group of 18th century samurai, known as the forty-seven ronin, who avenge the murder of their master. This film will be the first time the story has ever been told in English and Reeves’ character, Kai, who is a “hybrid”, half-Japanese and half-British, was specifically created for the film.
