Kelly Clarkson and her recently released Wrapped In Red album are just a few of our favorite things. With Halloween officially behind us, we can spend the next two months breaking open our favorite Christmas albums and holiday flicks.

To get us fans in the mood, Kelly is set to appear in her very own Christmas special on NBC. On Wednesday (Oct. 30), the powerhouse singer filmed Kelly Clarkson’s (Cautionary) Christmas Tale at the Venetian in Las Vegas. The upcoming special, set for December 11, is loosely based on the Charles Dickens’ classic novel A Christmas Carol and will feature musical performances as well as a handful of hilarious skits, including one with Voice coach Blake Shelton (according to MjsBigBlog).

During the night’s taping, Clarkson performed many holiday standards (“My Favorite Things,” “Blue Christmas”) and cuts from her new album, including the lead single “Underneath the Tree” and “Silent Night,” featuring Reba McEntire and Trisha Yearwood. After a brief intermission, the singer returned to the stage to perform some of her biggest hits, like “My Life Would Suck Without You,” “Walk Away” and “Miss Independent.” At one point during the filming, a young girl named Morgan took the stage to read a story that ties together the entire show.

During on particularly charming moment, Clarkson commented on one good-looking fella in the audience, to which another attendee commented that she was a newly wed. She replied, “I will hit on someone and make him jealous!”

She added, laughing, “I’m just kidding, I love my man.”

In a recent Billboard cover story, Clarkson revealed the inspiration behind the special. “I love [the Will Ferrell movie] ‘Elf,’” she says. “I wanted to tell a real story, make a new classic, not just do some skits that aren’t really related.”

“This will feature a full narrative with a beginning, middle and end,” explains Ian Stewart, co-founder of Dun and Dusted, the production company producing the show. “And the spine is her singing. We’ll have a young girl, narrating the story, sitting in an overstuffed chair in front of an amazing fire, reading the story from a book. And yes, it starts with ‘once upon a time’ and ends with ‘happily ever after.’”

One super fan, Cooksongrl, attended the evening and has a great summary, plus tons of photos, on her blog. “Thanks Kelly for doing this even though you admitted you’re tired. Great night!” she praised.

Following the event, Clarkson tweeted her gratitude, “Thank you to all of the fans that came out last night to my Christmas special taping!! Fun night! I have the best fans!”
