You know that you’ve made it when you make it onto The Simpsons. Having already firmly established itself in pop culture, it was only a matter of time before Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy was give a Simpsons treatment. Not only has it made it into The Simpsons, but it’s claimed the all-important spot of the latest couch gag.
The Hobbit cough gag appears in this Sunday night’s episode, “Four Regrettings and a Funeral”, and has its own title and synopsis. “The Couch Gag: Part One of Six” sees the family set out on an epic adventure.
Opening with a map that shows them the way to their couch, they set off to find their way home. Along the way they encounter a Gollum Moe, Dragon Mr Burns and some of Bart’s ghostly schoolmates. Will they defeat the evil forces of Middle Earth Springfield?
The November 3 episode deals with the death and funeral of a Springfield citizen. However, this is not the much-talked about episode that will feature the death of a major Simpsons character.
The Simpsons screens Sundays at 8pm on FOX.
