Never one to hold her tongue, the incomparable Queen of Comedy, Joan Rivers, publicly criticized Miley Cyrus this week for setting a poor example to young fans.

Chatting to OK Magazine, Rivers exclaimed: ”Enough! That girl is disgusting. She should know her audience, and her audience is 17-year-old girls! I would never have let Melissa go to a concert like that at 17 years of age.”

Melissa Rivers is now 45 years old and an executive producer on Fashion Police, the deliciously cutting E! show where her mother, Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and George Kotsiopoulos humorously critique red carpet looks.

Famously, Joan and Melissa were the first to launch the “red carpet” phenomena, with Joan coining the phrase, “Who are you wearing?” back in the ’90s.

Joan also praised Britney Spears on her post-breakdown lifestyle change, noting the singer’s upswing in reputation since 2008.

“I think everyone wanted her to survive. I mean, she went so dark and so low, and it’s nice to see someone pull out of it and become much smarter about the way she’s living her life. She’s being really smart now.”

On how to prevent the dangerous consequences of high-level fame, Rivers added: “There has got to be authority figures and people who have checks and balances on these young kids, especially since things have become so out of control with the internet.”

Fashion Police airs at 11pm, Sundays on E!
