Is Joe Cornish Set To Direct The Third Star Trek Movie?

NULL

Dean Richards

Staff Writer

Has Star Trek 3 found its new director? After it was announced back in January that current director JJ Abrams would work on the upcoming Star Wars film and would therefore take a step back in the Star Trek franchise, the search for a new director has led to quite a lot of rumours. The latest name to be mentioned in that list is Joe Cornish, who made his directorial debut back in 2011 on the film Attack the Block.

Cornish has since worked as a writer for The Adventures of Tintin and Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man, which he wrote together with Edgar Wright. On top of that, he is already working with Paramount (Star Trek‘s production studio) on an adaptation of the novel “Snow Crash”, which according to Deadline has made him the studio’s first choice to replace Abrams as director of Star Trek.

Previously Abrams let out to Collider that “it’s a little bittersweet” to know that someone else would be taking his position. “Whomever it is that directs the film will be someone we all know is going to keep the cast and crew in good hands,” he added in the interview.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, though, so stay tuned for more! The third Star Trek movie isn’t expected to start production until the summer of 2014!
