Oops, she’s done it again! Britney Spears is back in the music biz with a song she says “hits close to home.” She says that her listeners should be able to relate to the song’s lyrics, which were released with the song’s artwork on November 1.

“Everyone’s been through an insecure moment in a relationship that’s left them vulnerable and I think this song captures that.”

Spears co-wrote the song with Sia Furler and Chris Braide, with the latter describing the new track as “effortlessly ironic.” The song, along with much of Spears’ new album, was inspired by her break-up with ex-fiance Jason Trawik. It’s a personal ballad relating to the singer’s own feelings about their relationship.

Spears’ lyrics go on to describe the speaker’s desire to be the only one in their subject’s affection. Phrases such as “please don’t forget me” and “I gotta mark my territory” set the perfume up as a symbol.

It is a symbol of the speaker’s feelings over the neglect of her partner, and in the end she says, “I hide it well, hope you can’t tell but I hope she smells my perfume.” The raw emotion behind these lyrics, combined with Spears’ own admittance, put her back on the map as someone to watch out for. Peter Edge, Head of RCA, hints that the piece could be a “big career song” for Spears.

Spears has said she will make “Perfume” available to listen on her public Facebook page tomorrow (November 3, 2013). The song’s album, Britney Jean, is produced by will.i.am and will be available for pre-order starting November 5, 2013.
