The BBC has announced that, on their sister station, BBC Two, they will be showing a 90 minute Cold War film entitled Legacy, about an MI6 spy in training and his friendship with a Russian diplomat. Charlie Cox is set to play the spy whose name is Charles Thoroughood, and Andrew Scott will play Russian Viktor Koslov.
Here is the official synopsis for the drama:
It’s 1974, in the middle of the Cold War. The three day week, petrol rationing and industrial strife has plunged Britain into a state of emergency. Against this turbulent backdrop, Charles Thoroughgood, a trainee spy in MI6, Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, is asked to revive his former friendship with Viktor Koslov, a Russian diplomat he knew at university with a view to ‘turning’ him. But Viktor has his own agenda and reveals a shocking truth about Charles’ own family that threatens to derail him, both personally and professionally.
He is catapulted into a dangerous personal odyssey to uncover the truth, but finds himself drawn into a lethal KGB plot to mount an attack within the UK.
His life is further complicated by a relationship with the wife of another agent. He is forced to realize that betrayal can take many forms.
It sounds absolutely thrilling and nerve wracking; and I love that Scott is getting another chance to stretch his multi-layered acting skills, even if he is playing another villain.
The film has no release date but it was recently featured in BBC Two’s drama trail which you can see below.

The film may not debut until late December so, Sherlockians, be on the look out. You don’t want to miss out on seeing Scott being deliciously devilish once again.
Legacy is based on a novel written by Alan Judd and has been adapted for the screen by Paula Milne (writer of Endgame which starred John Hurt and Mark Strong). It reunites Milne with her Endgame director Pete Travis who also has directed this film. The espionage thriller is to be included in BBC Two’s Cold War season, which will also include commissions dedicated to exploring the culture and politics of the decades long war.
