Christopher Walken will star in the new Dan Algrant jazz film Little Rootie Tootie alongside Lenny Kravitz.
Walken will play Sonny, a jazz pianist mourning the death of his wife and whose volatile behaviour prompts his son, played by Lenny Kravitz, to fly back from Europe with his wife. These three characters give the illusion of a functional family, but their eccentric lives take over as the film leads to a “tragic but impactful conclusion”.
Daniel Algrant’s work has mostly been independent films, his latest one being Greetings from Tim Buckley, starring Penn Badgley and Imogen Poots.
Little Rootie Tootie, named after piano great Thelonius Monk’s track, will start shooting in January, with Terence Blanchard [Malcolm X, Original Sin] in charge of the score. No release date has been set yet.
