Broadchurch actor Oliva Colman has asserted that yes, she will return to the UK show for its second season, but she will not join David Tennant in its American remake. The show’s creator, Chris Chibnall, has also previously confirmed the BAFTA winner’s return to the crime series, reports DigitalSpy.
Colman stated, “yes, I will be doing it,” at the launch for The 7:39, her new BBC One drama.
The American version of Broadchurch is currently in development by FOX, and will star British actor David Tennant. Chibnail also contributed his two cents, stating that the transatlantic remake, titled Gracepoint, could be “as good [as] if not better” than the original.
What we can take from this is that America is realizing the high quality of British television. Maybe fans of the UK series can take the remake as an acknowledgement of the original’s quality more so than a rip off. Audiences can also be humored by the fact the US adaptation will air on the same network that airs Glee and New Girl. Kudos to FOX for that interestingly diverse lineup.
We here at PopWrapped can personally say we cannot wait to see Tennant on our screens, and we extend congratulations to Colman for her return for the UK’s shows second season!
