8th Grade Student Suspended From School For Refusing To Remove His Purse

13-year-old student, Skylar Davis, has been suspended from his middle school in Kansas due to his refusal to remove a Very Bradley purse that he was carrying.

The eighth grader’s mother is justifiably furious at this turn of events, believing that if her son was actually her daughter, this issue would never have arisen. The word “discrimination” has been tossed about liberally.

Davis stated that, “I don’t think everyone should be treated differently. Everyone should have the same privileges.”

Davis attends Anderson County Senior-Junior School, and has stated that he has been carrying the bag for quite some time without incident. “It expresses myself and I think everyone else can wear it, so I wear it as well,” Davis expressed to local reporter, Dave Jordan.

On Wednesday, he was called to the office of Assistant Principal Don Hillard, after his continued refusal to remove the purse.

“I went to the office and I refused to take it off, and they suspended me,” Davis explained. The school’s administration then contacted Davis’ mother, Leslie Davis, to collect her son.

“I was a little furious, and I called the school [and spoke to Hillard] to reverify the story, and yeah, he refused to take off his Vera Bradley bag, nothing more to it,” Willis fumed.

Willis also stated that she scoured the school’s student handbook to see if she could locate a clause that would negate her sons right to wear a purse; of which she found none. She does, however, find the timing of this suspension to be a little questionable.

“Skylar has been going to school since August with that same Vera Bradley bag on, hasn’t taken it off. What is the problem?” A perfectly valid question, if you ask me.

Willis vocally supports her son and his choices, fashion and otherwise. She believes that he should be able to wear and carry anything he wants, as long as it adheres to the school’s dress-code policy.

Davis’ brother, Dakota Haight, said he believes this decision is extremely unfair. “I’ve seen girls wear short shorts. Why don’t they get kicked out? But then he gets kicked out for a purse? That doesn’t make sense. It’s not right,” Haight pondered.

Willis was informed that Davis’ suspension would not be lifted until he promised to cease wearing the purse; a concession he’s simply not willing to make.
