The long awaited and higly anticipated Doctor Who biopic An Adventure in Space and Time is set to air on BBC America at 9pm Eastern Time on Friday, November 22, 2013. At the writing helm is Doctor Who and Sherlock great Mark Gatiss and his film chronicals the turbulent tenure of the First Doctor, William Hartnell.  The amazing cast and sets are highlighted in stills released by BBC America.  Not only are they delving into the actors behind our favorite time traveling team, they are also revisiting some of the iconic scenes from Doctor Who including The Dalek Invasion of Earth and The Web Planet.

Portraying the amazing William Hartnell is David Bradley (Broadchurch, Doctor Who).  In the trailer just released, Bradley’s performance seems eerily perfect.  Along with Bradley are a host of other fine actors. Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife) stars as Verity Lambert, who is Doctor Who’s legendary original producer. In addition are the TARDIS set designer Peter Brachacki (David Annen) and An Unearthly Child director Waris Hussein (Sacha Dhawan). Rumors are also spreading about some fan favorite cameos such as Steven Moffatt, Nicholas Briggs, Carole Ann Ford, William Russell, Toby Hadoke and even Matt Smith himself.

Recently in an interview with the BBC, Mark Gatiss discussed the special.  “Principally, it’s the story of how ‘Doctor Who’ was created, so we concentrate on the very beginnings and the first few episodes. There are lots of treats for the fans but it’s also the story of William Hartnell, the first Doctor and how the part transformed his life.  I’m a life-long Doctor Who fan and the origins of this beloved show have always fascinated me. But, above all, I wanted it to strike a chord on a human level. These were brilliant, complex, talented people making something revolutionary. And, in William Hartnell, we have the very affecting story of a man redeemed by the role of a lifetime who then, sadly, had to let it go. I think we can all relate to something like that in our lives.”
