Simon Cowell Responds to Accusation of Being “Irresponsible and Stupid”

Simon Cowell has responded to the disapproval the British Education Secretary Michael Gove after he had made some comments about his own experiences with education. He had told a US radio station that “the secret is to be useless at school and then get lucky”, something Gove definitely did not approve of.

Give had gone on to call Cowell’s comments “irresponsible and stupid,” explaining that “Teachers strive every day to ensure children understand the importance of learning, hard work and discipline. Simon Cowell’s comments undermine their efforts. The truth is that only a tiny fraction of people get lucky.”

“For everybody else, it’s all about hard work and that starts with hard work at school. Celebrities like Mr Cowell should encourage education, not rubbish it.”

These comments caused the X-Factor boss to tweet (on the 16th of November):

It’s a tough issue… Cowell is just trying to make drop-outs feel a bit more hopeful, while Gove wants to avoid drop-outs altogether.

So who do you think is in the right? Let us know in the comments!
