We all love us some Spidey, but get this: his allies and enemies alike are about to get some serious screen-time too.

Sony Pictures Entertainment had a meeting with investors on Thursday, and a couple of big hints were dropped about an expansion of the Spider-Man franchise, according to Deadline.

“We are going to access Marvel’s full world of Spider-Man characters, so be on the lookout for new heroes and villains,” Co-Chairwoman Amy Pascal said.

Sony CEO Michael Lynton added, “We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man. There are a number of scripts in the works.”

They left it there, not offering any specifics on what characters they planned to add to the franchise.

Sony owns rights to Spider-Man through Marvel and its parent The Walt Disney Company, as well as the right to produce movies about any heroes and villains who interact with Peter Parker and his alter-ego.

Andrew Garfield returns to his role as the web-slinging hero in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, due out in May 2014. He’ll be battling against villains Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and Electro (Jamie Foxx) in the newest installment.

According to Metro UK, a trailer for the sequel will begin playing in theaters during screenings of upcoming film The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be any signs of an Avengers and Spider-Man crossover yet, but our fingers are crossed.
