The Amazing Spider-Man 2, due for release in 2014, has today released both the full synopsis and a new cast list.

A surprise omission from the cast list was actor Chris Cooper, who was to play Norman Osborn, leading many to suspect that this role has been delayed, and will instead be featured in a later film.

However, even with Cooper’s absence, the film is still studded with stars. Andrew Garfield returns as the web-spinning superhero, with Emma Stone reprising the role of Gwen Stacy. Also set to star in the film are Jamie Foxx, Campbell Scott, Embeth Davidtz, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti and Sally Field.

The synopsis highlights the great struggle that Spider-Man has always faced– the battle between being the hero and being the human– but Sony Pictures has also commented that the sequel will lead Peter Parker to find “that a greater conflict lies ahead.”

Jamie Foxx features as the powerful and terrifying Electro, and when Harry Osborn, Parker’s friend (played by Dane DeHaan), returns, “Parker comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to burst into UK cinemas on April 18, 2014, whilst US fans can catch it from May 2, 2014.

You can read the full synopsis, courtesy of Digital Spy in its entirety below:

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone).

But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city.

With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realise that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.
