With just a little over two weeks until “The Time of the Doctor” and the Eleventh Doctor’s regeneration, the up-and-coming Doctor, Peter Capaldi, and showrunner Steven Moffat, have been seen hanging around and teasing the world about what the Twelfth Doctor will be like.
For one, Moffat jokingly said he feels Capaldi is too young for the role: “Well, The Doctor is thousands of years old, they’ve never actually been able to find an actor old enough to play him.”
Capaldi, 55, added: “I’m like, 1,995 years too young for the part really. So no, I think he’s going to be quite happy to look his age at last.”
Capaldi also said he was a massive fan of all the previous Doctors, having watched the show “since year dot.”
“They are just one, there are all of these actors and they’re all a delight. I think they’re all fabulous […] “I’m lucky to have them in my DNA.”
But having an older Doctor won’t make things any easier or slower. Moffat says: “We’ve got used to two brilliant iterations of the younger, more popular Doctor and they have both been superlative. But now it’s time for the old beast to snarl at you for a bit!”
Catch “The Time of the Doctor” December 25 on BBC.
