With the Doctor Who Christmas special, Peter Capaldi is set to take over as the 12th Doctor, a choice described as ” incredible” by Matt Smith, who is the current Doctor. Smith has been quoted as saying, “as a fan, I’m genuinely excited to see what he’s going to do because I think he’s going to do something extraordinary.”
Jenna Coleman, who plays companion Clara, shares Smith’s excitement, saying it will be “a different show” with Capaldi as lead, according to Digital Spy. She continued to say that Capaldi will “take the show in an interesting [new] direction” and that the casting “makes sense.” According to Coleman, she and Capaldi will start rehearsing before Christmas.
Matt Smith’s last time on screen as the Doctor will be the Christmas special, ‘The Time of the Doctor,’ which airs on Christmas Day at 7:30 PM on BBC One.
