Star Wars Episode VII Script Expected To Be In Disney’s Hands In January

It appears that all Disney wants for Christmas is a completed script for the next Star Wars film, Episode VII, as apparently they have yet to receive a completed script for the production.

At the end of October it was announced that Michael Arndt (of Little Miss Sunshine fame) had left the production and that his initial script treatment was being reworked by director, JJ Abrams and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi scribe, Lawrence Kasdan. The reworking has resulted in a delay in production though the latest version of the script is currently expected to be delivered to Disney in January.

Following the Variety Dealmakers breakfast earlier this week (December 13) at which Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn was speaking, Variety’s Marc Grasser tweeted earlier in the week the revised script deadline along with the news that while the film has not specific budget set at this stage, Disney “wouldn’t be surprised if it costs $200 million”.

At the same event, Horn also confirmed that Disney would be release a Star Wars film every year. The films will be a mixture of the main story arc new trilogy (about the Skywalker family) as well as spinoffs.

Star Wars Episode VII is currently set for a December 18, 2015 release. While there has been immense speculation that original trilogy stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford will have cameos in the new film, nothing has been confirmed as yet. Disney has also recently undertaken a UK and Ireland-wide open audition call for two lead roles in the film. No official casting has been announced at present.
