This just in, Sandman fans! Joseph Gordon-Levitt has tweeted his pleasure at being involved in the Sandman film project with Warner Brothers and Neil Gaiman!

Deadline reported David Goyer being taken on as producer of the project, and JGL finalizing his involvement. Rumors say that the star is also seeing this as a way to break into a different role—directing.

JGL directed a film at the Sundance Film Festival, Don Jon, and was very successful. Now the star wants to make his new title permanent, and he’s going to use Sandman to do it!

While the team has yet to hire a writer to bring Morpheus to life, they’re keeping an eye out. Fans of the main character, who is the personification of dreams in this fantasy/horror series, will be happy to know that they won’t have long to wait.

Morpheus finds his way back to his kingdom after 70 years of captivity. But what he finds is a place of ruin, and it is up to him to rebuild what time has begun to destroy. JGL is joining this production after leaving the Batsuit—and all that it entails—in the hands of Ben Affleck for the film Batman VS. Superman.

JGL has been on Warner Bros’ radar after his roles in the Batman films and Inception. With so many superhero comic-to-screen projects already out there, the Sandman production brings something original to the drawing board. Pulling this off could give the franchise a brighter beacon than it already has!

Joseph Grodon-Levitt is next set to star in another graphic novel film, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,  created by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez.
