The announcement came a few days ago that Peter Pan would be coming to a big screen near you in 2015 when Pan, the story of Peter Pan’s origins, is made into a feature film.

Originally reported to have Javier Bardem in the role of the villainous pirate Blackbeard, it appears as though Bardem has passed on the role and, according to Variety, Australian actor Hugh Jackman, best known for his portrayal of Wolverine, is in talks to play the antagonist.

But, I hear you ask, if Blackbeard is the antagonist, what happened to Captain Hook? Surely there can’t be a Peter Pan story told without Hook. Well, fear not lovers of Neverland, Captain Hook will still make an appearance, serving as a close ally of Pan, before turning against him. Reports had suggested that Warner Bros. were looking into Ryan Gosling to fill that role, but it would seem that he has declined their offer.

Penned by Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift), Pan will “follow a young orphan named Pan who is brought to Neverland and becomes a hero while leading a revolt against evil pirates.” It’s probably safe to assume that Blackbeard will be the leader of said pirates.

The rest of the casting remains to be seen, but Warner Bros. is said to be holding open auditions shortly to find a “discovery” for the titular role of Pan, as well as an actress in her mid-20’s to play his love interest, Tiger Lily.

Pan is scheduled to be released on June 26, 2015.
