The Final Three Battle It Out On The X Factor

Last night the final three took the stage to battle it out for the crown and all the glory on The X Factor.

With Demi’s team out of the running due to some shocking eliminations this season, the final three bring one act from each remaining team including Jeff Gutt (Kelly), Carlito Olivero (Paulina), and Alex & Sierra (Simon).  Each act sang three numbers, so let’s take a look at some highlights.

Carlito’s “Song to Win” performance was “Impossible” by Shontelle, which he sang with a little Spanish. Kelly managed not to critique his actual singing, while Simon applauded him for maybe not being the best singer, but always giving it his all. For his celebrity duet, he sang “Stand by Me” with Latin star, Prince Royce.  His final song of the night was Santana’s “Maria Maria,” which topped off the night to the sound of high praises from Simon, “You have earned my respect, and America’s respect. You’ve been a pleasure to work with, and I wish you the best of luck tonight.” My one concern for Carlito is the Spanish-heavy performances and the celebrity duet with an artist most Americans may not have heard of. Though his emotional story and charm may still be his ticket to the podium!

Jeff Gutt started out of the gates with “Dream On” by Aerosmith. The 37-year-old rocker has never been one my favorites, but his performance was actually pretty flawless. His celebrity duet with John Rezeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls was probably the most believable performance I’ve seen. Demi raved, “I’m so star-struck! You held your own and it was so awesome. I’m so happy right now.” Taking it back to the 90’s for the final time, Jeff’s last song with “Creep” by Radiohead. Simon applauded the singer for having “a great” night and his mentor was elated by her rocker dude. Though he’s not my favorite to win, I think he had a solid night of strong performances.

Alex & Sierra. These two have been solid since their amazing “Toxic” cover from auditions. I wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to handle their over-the-top mushy gushiness, but they have come into their own and I love them! Their opening number was “Give Me Love” by Ed Sheeran, and it was amazing. Their celebrity duet was X Factor alum and international star, Leona Lewis with her global hit “Bleeding Love.” This slowed down version was definitely not my favorite; you have three powerhouse singers and none of them are really able to shine with this number. The closing number from Alex & Sierra was A Great Big World’s “Say Something.” Him on the guitar and her at the piano; this was perfection.

Simon may think that this will be one of the closest finales yet, but if America votes correctly Alex & Sierra should come out ahead by a landslide.
