Downton Abbey‘s Lady Rosamond has signed on for her first West End musical. Well, that is, Samantha Bond has signed on.

The actress returns to the stage quite a bit, and this time will be returning in the musical comedy, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. It will be taking place at the Saloy Theatre from March 10, after running in Manchester and Aylesbury.

Though Bond is sure to be excited about taking on this opportunity, she thought the audition for director Jerry Mitchell, along with the composer and writers was “absolutely terrifying.”

According to the Daily Mail, Bond was so scared that she did the audition with her back to them, claiming “it was bum-clenching.”
Samantha also admitted, “Inside my heart, there’s a 12-year-old girl who has always wanted me to be Ginger Rogers.” She said she even studied with the junior Rambert Ballet and worked with Wayne Sleep for a dance at a recent charity event.

Mitchell thought Bond was perfect for the part of Muriel, who is described as, “an American divorce living on the French Riviera who comes into contact with a team of con artists who cheat wealthy women out of their trust hands.”

“I hadn’t sung in a show since I was Principal Boy in Mother Goose in Bristol, when I was 22,” Bond explained. However, she has taken a singing lesson and has been working on it at home, along with her husband who has made a career out of musical theatre.

If she is asked to return to Downton, she said she will “hopefully manage filming around her theatre schedule.”
