Communication service company Skype, has been hacked by a group calling themselves the Syrian Electronic Army. The company’s social media platforms, including its website and Twitter account, were put in jeopardy, with the attackers advising Skype users to not use the email service provided by its parent company, Microsoft. The attack comes as the group accuses Microsoft of monitoring their users’ accounts.

“Don’t use Microsoft emails (hotmail, outlook), They are monitoring your accounts and selling the data to governments,” wrote the Syrian Electronic Army on Skype’s Twitter feed and official blog. The Syrian Electronics Army, or SEA for short, went on to post their emblem, along with the caption, “Syrian Electronic Army was here.”

Taking action, Microsoft removed the postings and has moved forward to assure users that no personal information was jeopardized in the attack.

“You may have noticed our social media properties were targeted today. No user info was compromised. We’re sorry for the inconvenience,” posted the Redmond, Washington tech giant, which is latest the company to be hit by SEA.

SEA has also taken claim to an attack on President Obama’s Twitter feed back in October 2013, where the group replaced a link with a URL to a propaganda video. The group has also attacked media outlets such as the Financial Times, The Guardian, Al Jazeera and BBC Weather.
