In recent interviews, actor Hugh Jackman has called X-men: Days of Future Past one of Fox’s biggest projects since Avatar. This is one of the larger tasks that 20th Century Fox has taken on, with Bryan Singer giving his own personal touch to the piece.
Jackman spoke about Singer’s influence on the film in an interview with Empire, via ComicBookMovie.com.
“Bryan has such an incredible brain. This is certainly the biggest movie Fox has made outside of Avatar, so there’s pressure from all angles. But he’s buzzing, and he’s confident. He’s gone deeper emotionally, and it’s a great ensemble piece.”
2006 saw the end of the original X-Men trilogy, bringing a sense of finality not only to fans, but to the actors, too. Jackman revealed that there were talks about doing a prequel-esque movie, similar to the Disney sequels that show a character’s history.
But, as fate would have it, he was pleasantly surprised.
“I thought that was it. There was already talk about doing a younger version, and I was certainly talking about Wolverine and trying to drum up interest in that. I thought the idea of another X-Men movie was done, so this was a surprise. And a welcome one.”
X-Men: Days of Future Past will star Hugh Jackman, Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Jennifer Lawrence, and James McAvoy, among others.
The film is set to screen in the UK on May 22, 2014, and in the US on May 23.
