Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hasn’t even hit theatres yet, but that hasn’t stopped 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment from signing director Matt Reeves on to helm the third instalment of the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise.

Taking on a new role in the third film as well, Reeves is set to write the script alongside Mark Bomback, who penned Dawn, the upcoming sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

The second film in the new series, Dawn, is set approximately eight years after the events in Rise and sees Andy Serkis returning to star as Caesar, with Judy Greer, Gary Oldman, Kerri Russell and  Jason Clarke rounding out the cast.

The official synopsis from FOX says;

“A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier.
They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.”

While further details are as yet unknown about Planet of the Apes 3, based solely on the one-and-a-half minute trailer for Dawn, I’m going to go out on a limb and say, that with Apes 3 in the hands of Reeves, it will be nothing short of extraordinary.
