Mark Wahlberg’s new film Lone Survivor has knocked Frozen off the top spot for the Weekend Box Office.
The film tells the real life story of Marcus Luttrell (Mark Wahlberg), who was the only one of four SEALS to return from a mission to capture or kill a Taliban Leader, collected 38.5 million in the U.S and Canada alone.
The film is directed and written by Friday Night Light director Peter Bergand, and according to Universal Studios the film cost $40 million to make. According to Rentrack, “It was the second biggest January opening weekend ever, behind only ‘Cloverfield”, which made $40 million.” Universal’s president for domestic distribution, Nikki Rocco, revealed,” You can’t make predictions on films like this,” she also added, “You just don’t know how the public is going to embrace it.”
Other films that were in the Top 4 at the box office were, Frozen, The Wolf of Wall Street which got $9 million with The Legend of Hercules and American Hustle tied for fourth place.
