The creator of the hit BBC1 show Hustle, is planning to create a new TV musical drama featuring the sounds of Motown.

Tony Jordan, has announced that will be creating a ten-part series, titled Stop! In the Name Of Love. The show will see a group of middle aged thirty year olds searching for love and friendship, and the audience will get musical numbers performed in each episode. The musical television set up follows the cultural phenomenon Glee, and the mildly successful Smash in the United States.

Jordan tells Digital Spy that Stop! offers “something very different from any other show on television,” and that the series “truly reflects the multi-cultural world we’ve become, showing that human emotions and experiences are universal”.

The series will be produced by Jordan’s company, Red Planet Pictures, whom have already organized music rights with EMI Music Publishing, which owns the rights to the Motown back catalogue. Meaning great Motown hits from Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Lionel Richie may be heard.

“The music of Motown is iconic,” the former EastEnders writer continued. “The musical arrangements and cutting-edge choreography will give us a uniquely modern take on a genre of music that is truly timeless.”

A date is unknown for the show, but talks with potential broadcasters, both domestic and internationally, have already started taking place.
