Calling all fans of the Vampire Diaries book series! L.J. Smith, the creator and original writer of Vampire Diaries, has announced some news that brings hope to all hardcore Vampire Diaries fans.

The writer began the series in 1991, writing 3 books in nine months as part of a contract with publishing company Harper Paperbacks and following its success, wrote one more book in 1992. After a decade long hiatus, and after the premiere of the equally successful CW show of the same name, Smith wrote another trilogy, entitled The Return.

However, after submitting a draft for the next book in the next planned trilogy, Smith and the company were in disagreement over a pivotal plot twist, thought to be centered around the main love triangle. Smith’s contract was henceforth terminated and a ghostwriter hired to continue the series.

For months, the author has hinted and teased a special surprise for original fans of the series on her official website and yesterday all was finally revealed. Smith, speaking through her official Facebook and twitter pages, revealed she will be releasing her version of Vampire Diaries – through Kindle Worlds, an online publisher service of Amazon.com, in which fans can write fanfiction of their favourite book series. And luckily for us, Vampire Diaries is one of the titles they have bought.
