With the 2014 Emmy Awards just around the corner, major changes may be coming our way sooner than we think.
TVLine has reported that the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is considering splitting its award for Outstanding TV Movie or Miniseries into two separate categories.
This should come as no surprise, seeing how miniseries have become the new denim and black with cable and broadcast nets. Since 2010, their popularity had been slowly blooming until it burst last year, and shows like American Horror Story, Top of the Lake, and the up-and-coming 24: Live Another Day are to blame/be thanked for.
There are reports of over one dozen miniseries in the quarrel this year, and the number of original movies is not remotely far behind.
But don’t worry about an Emmy Awards ceremony longer than 3 hours, fellow TV addict. The proposed split would only apply to the Outstanding TV Movie or Miniseries alone.
