Pine, who has starred alongside out-and-proud actor Zachary Quinto in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek reboot, told the Associated Press that the United States should be more vocal in protesting against Russia’s policies on homosexuality in preparation for the Sochi Winter Olympics. The Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit actor said, “I think we should do more than just send gay Olympians there. What’s happening there in terms of gay rights or the lack of it is extraordinary and awful.”
If you have no clue what Chris Pine is talking about, let me fill you in: He’s referring to the US sending Billie Jean King, an openly gay former tennis player, as head of the US delegation, alongside skater Brian Boitano and ice hockey player Caitlin Cahow to the winter games. In June 2013, Russia passed a new law that banned “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations,” which stops people expressing support for gay rights.
Do you agree with Chris Pine’s opinion?
