It would seem that Shia LaBeouf’s recent antics have all been in the name of art, performance art, according to the actor.
Late last year the Transformers actor drew criticism when it was discovered that his short film HowardCantour.com was a basic plagiarism of a 2007 graphic novel, Justin M Damiano, by Daniel Clowes. To make matters worse his apologies on twitter turned out to be quotes taken from political speeches and, weirdly enough, a comment on Yahoo! Answers.
And less than a week ago, he headbutted a guy.
Now, according to Gossip Cop, Labeouf is describing his behaviour as ‘art’ in a series of tweets in which he posited the notion of American artwork and plagiarism in everyday life.
“The problem with American artwork, is a problem of subject matter,” he began, “Artwork keeps getting entangled with the problems of America itself.”
According to LaBeouf, “All art is either plagiarism or revolution & to be revolutionary in art today, is to be reactionary,” he wrote. “In the midst of being embroiled in acts of intended plagiarism, the world caught me & I reacted. The show began.”
Claiming that his work, @thecampaignbook, was a “meta-modernist performance art.”
His final few tweets consisted of more ‘meta’ talk, #stopcreating and finally with the fact that he is now retiring from all public life, making the statement “I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE.”
I posit a new hash tag, #StopLeBeoufJustStop.
