Katherine Heigl is ready to return to the small screen, and her wish will be granted very soon. After months of planning, NBC has picked up the pilot for State of Affairs, a spy drama which will feature Heigl as the lead role.
Not limited to starring in the show, Heigl will serve as executive producer on the drama along with several other producers, including her mother and manager Nancy Heigl. Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces) will also work to write the Universal Television show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Many debates have come about between which network would ultimately pick the show up, but speculation had arose that ABC would definitely not be a frontrunner in picking up the series because of its similarity to their prime time hit Scandal.
State of Affairs’ broadcast will mean Heigl’s return to television four years after leaving Grey’s Anatomy. Heigl popularized herself as Dr. Izzie Stevens on the ABC medical drama from 2005 to 2010 and quit midseason due to personal reasons.
In addition to Heigl’s drama, NBC has picked up a comedy produced by Amy Poehler titled Old Soul which is said to center around a young woman who tries to find herself while working as an aide to a group of elderly people.
