Broadway enthusiasts and lovers of musical theater, to me! Kinky Boots will be coming to the UK in 2015! The show’s director, Jerry Mitchell, announced that the show will debut at London’s West End. It’s true! He even used the word “definitely!”
However before it can make a splash on the calendars, Kinky Boots has to wait for a current West End show to end. Mitchell said in an interview with British magazine The Stage. “We have been offered four different theatres, but they all currently have shows in them. So until any of them close, or announce they are closing, we won’t know for sure,”
The show, which was penned by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, won six prizes at the 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. While this has left some other musicals and their fans a little bummed, it certainly sets the bar for the aspiring masses!
Kinky Boots follows the struggles of a shoe factory, which is struggling to make ends meet. Enter Lola, a drag queen with a plan to save the business. When the show was made into a movie in 2005, Chiwetel Ejiofor played the lead role. However, the West End isn’t the only one to have all of the fun! The US can expect a tour of Kinky Boots later this year.
