Neverland will soon have a new pirate. Hugh Jackman has signed on to appear in Joe Wright’s Peter Pan flick. Warner Bros. confirmed on Friday that the Wolverine star has been cast in the role of Blackbeard in the live-action film.
“Hugh Jackman always delivers indelible performances that resonate with audiences,” Warner Bros. executive Greg Silverman said in a statement. “We know he will create a Blackbeard who will be a powerful presence in this original Peter Pan adventure.”
The film (currently referred to as Pan, although there is no official title yet), is based on the characters from the much-loved stories of J.M. Barrie. Pan will explore Peter Pan and Hook’s early friendship while Hook is working on Blackbeard’s pirate ship.
After Javier Bardem opted out of the pirate role, Jackman was tied to the story, along with Tron: Legacy’s Garrett Hedlund, who will be playing the iconic role of Hook. The role of Peter Pan is yet to be cast. Pan is scheduled for release during the June of 2015.
Jackman will also reprise his role as Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past later this year.
