Apparently Happy Meals aren’t how we remember them. According to police reports a Pittsburgh McDonald’s employee sold heroin in Happy Meal boxes to customers who used the code phrase, “I’d like to order a toy.”
The employee accused of defiling Ronald McDonald’s good name is Shantia Dennis. In order to make the bust, a local narcotics law enforcement team went undercover after receiving a tip from a confidential informant that it was Dennis who was running the operation.
Investigators said anyone who wanted to buy the drugs simply pulled up to the drive-thru and ordered a Happy Meal then said “I’d like to order a toy.” Police said customers had to ask for a boy’s toy. The Happy Meal would cost them $82 – $80 for the heroin and $2 for the actual toy.
DA spokesman Mike Manko went on to tell the Post-Gazette that undercover officers bought 10 bags of heroin in stamp-sized packets from Dennis. They also found another 50 bags on her person after making the buy.
Authorities have yet to determine how long Dennis was providing this drive-thru service. It’s also unclear what the buyers of the product have done with their spare toys.
