Senior Manager
February 2014 means the ‘changing of late night guards’ as Jimmy Fallon takes over the Tonight Show from Jay Leno and Seth Meyers stepping into Fallon’s shoes on Late Night.
Leno’s final show behind the Tonight Show desk will be February 6th with guest Billy Crystal, who was also Leno’s first guest in 1992. All 164 staffers of the Burbank offices will then be out of work, with layoffs scheduled to take place between February 14th and April 4th. The layoff announcement doesn’t come as a surprise though, it was originally made back in December and staffers have been encouraged to seek out other jobs within NBCUniversal.
Leno has also ensured that his staffers get paid for the months of February-July since NBC is launching Fallon’s incarnation of the Tonight Show to coincide with the Winter Olympics, 6 months earlier than originally planned.
Fallon’s Tonight Show will launch February 17th with guests Will Smith and U2.
